Papa John's CEO says employees may lose hours to pay for Obamacare
John Schnatter says Obamacare will increase price of pizza 10-14 cents.
Actually, it's 3.4-4.6 cents, according to Forbes

Koch-funded FreedomWorks:
Stand with Papa John's
(screw the workers)

January, 2014: John Schnatter joins Koch plutocrats at secret meeting of big-money political contributors. Schnatter was reportedly a "VIP Contributor" (think "BIG bucks). You can never own too many politicians (mostly Republican politicians). If Schnatter can't afford to pay for employees' health care but can make big-money contributions to the Kochs, something is wrong with this picture. The story is at Mother Jones.

Utah Papa John's sued by EEOC for firing Downs Syndrome employee
An independently employed job coach helped the employee fold boxes. According to the lawsuit, when an operating partner dropped by the store and saw the man working with his coach, he allegedly told the Papa John’s to fire him. The story

John Schnatter: You can keep your politics AND you can keep your pizza. We want neither.

"Papa John" is living large in his $600 million castle!

Papa John's Castle

John Schnatter’s 40,000 square foot castle is located in a wealthy country club suburb of Louisville, Kentucky. The property is spread out over a 16 acre estate and as Romney mentioned, features several swimming pools, a private lake and a golf course. The guest house alone is 6000 square feet and is valued at over $7 million according to Zillow.com! Another interesting feature is the 22 car multi-level underground garage which has its very own “valet office”, car wash and a gigantic motorized turn table-driveway to help park stretch limousines. The solution?

Single-payer health insurance.

Depending on employers for health care is nuts!

It began during World War II when wages were frozen to keep employers from bidding against each other for scarce civilian workers. Back then, it was a relatively minor expense. But with the dramatic increase in health care costs, it has become a huge weight around businesses' neck.

The problem?

Obamacare is part of the problem. It doesn't address costs and does precious little to improve the health care system. It's a recycled Republican plan.

The Republicans, who have consistenly opposed single-payer health care are part of the problem. One reason: They distrust government.

Another reason: Capitalism--"capitalists" (predominately Republicans) WANT private companies to skim 20% off of all health insurance revenue.

Then there are the Plutocrats, the 1%, like the Koch brothers, their puppet groups like "Americans For Prosperity" (which should be called "Americans For Plutocrats"), and other right-wing groups they fund, which have spent tens of millions opposing health care reform.

Let's not forget the lobbyists of health insurance corporations, who fight single-payer. Ironic that part of what is paid for health care is ultimately spent to oppose health care reform?

The AMA has played a major role in opposing single-payer. Doctors like to get rich.

Republicans, and their working-class supporters, need to wake up to the reality that our health care system is seriously broken and will only get worse.

The future:

Businesses who are now cutting workers' hours are the canary in the coal mine. Expect to see more of it.

Republicans were giddy in 2010, when extreme right-wing politicians who opposed health care reform were elected. The public's rejection of Republican philosophy in 2012 indicated people are getting fed up with Republican policies which favor big business and the rich.

If you are among those whose hours get cut back, or if you're tired of seeing health care for the working class eroding, remember there will be another election in 2016. Vote out the health-care obstructionists.

In addition to boycotting places like Papa John's, we need to get businesses out of the health care system.

We need single-payer health coverage.

Oxfam's Behind the Brands campaign aims to provide people who buy and enjoy these products with the information they need to hold the Big 10 to account for what happens in their supply chains.

In putting together a scorecard based entirely on publicly available information on company policies, we posed the question "what are they doing to clean up their supply chains"?
